DIGITAL NEWS MEDIA MEMBERS
The NYPA board of directors unanimously supports a proposal to create a non-voting class of membership for
digital only news media members. The proposal will be presented to the NYPA membership for vote at the Annual Meeting September 20, 2013 at the NYPA fall convention. The proposal requires that digital-only news media members must publish and online newspaper regularly and consecutively for two years prior to applying for a digitalonly news media membership. The active online newspaper must be published using recognized standards of professional journalism. The content must be revised multiple times per week. The online newspaper shall bear a fixed title containing date lines.
The active online newspaper must be principally devoted to the dissemination of original local or general
news and other editorial content generated locally by newspaper staff (not less than 50% of total content). Of
news/editorial content, a majority shall be local content or locally generated. The online newspaper must have a
known New York-based office of publication open to the public, where the business of the newspaper is conducted during regular business hours. The online newspaper must contain contact information for the publisher and key staff, including a physical address, email address and telephone number.
Initially, dues will be set at $350 per year.
If you have questions or comments regarding this proposal, please contact David Tyler, Michelle Rea or any
other member of the NYPA board of directors. Contact information for directors serving on the board is available at http://www.newyorkpressassociation.com/ .
